Partnership Defines Future of Ethernet in Process Industry

Listen to this article

Digitalisation in the process industry is advancing rapidly, with increasing demands for greater, simpler connectivity and more data transparency. VEGA has reacted by joining the Single Pair Ethernet (SPE) Alliance, once again demonstrating its support for open and future-proof digital infrastructures.

Formed in 2020, the SPE Alliance brings together leading technology companies in a shared goal to standardise and simplify network architecture. By joining the alliance, VEGA is looking to make its level and pressure sensors easily integratable into a wide variety of digital installations – making it easier for customers to keep up with the ever-increasing volume of data.

Having the best sensor is not enough anymore – it's all about integration,” VEGA product manager Philipp Ketterer supplements. “We want to remove barriers and make our customers' work as easy as possible.

The SPE technology delivers high and low-speed data transfer over a two-wire cable – from 10 Mb/s to 1 Gbit/s. This simplifies commissioning and field connection a great deal and, meanwhile, reduces the installation effort and costs.

In addition to its work with APL Ethernet for hazardous and complex environments, VEGA regards SPE as the ideal solution where fast communication and small design are mandatory. “APL and SPE complement each other perfectly,” emphasizes Ketterer.

By adopting this combined standard, VEGA is once again showing its commitment to the process industry's easy transition to the future of digital automation.
