Emerson has launched its new Rosemount™ 9000 Series™ Magnetic Flow Meter portfolio, designed to improve flow measurement reliability, simplify troubleshooting and help industrial operators maintain uptime across demanding process applications.

The new portfolio launches with the Rosemount 9732 Magnetic Flow Transmitter and Rosemount 9205 Magnetic Flow Sensor, combining advanced diagnostics, enhanced sensor technology and flexible configuration capabilities in a new generation of electromagnetic flow measurement equipment.

The Rosemount 9000 Series has been developed for industries where accurate and reliable flow measurement is important to process performance. Applications span chemical processing, oil and gas, metals and mining, food and beverage, pulp and paper, power, water and wastewater, refining, electronics and semiconductors and life sciences.

The new platform is intended to help users identify measurement and process issues earlier, simplify maintenance and troubleshooting and keep critical operations running reliably.

Advanced diagnostics for magnetic flow measurement

One of the key features of the Rosemount 9000 Series is its range of advanced flow meter diagnostics.

The diagnostics are designed to provide greater insight into both the instrument and process, helping maintenance and operations teams identify potential problems before they develop into more significant issues.

The diagnostic capabilities include coated electrode detection, tunable empty pipe detection and smart fluid diagnostics. The transmitter also incorporates five standard logs covering the totaliser, audit trail, alerts, security and Smart Meter Verification™.

Together, these functions can help users identify conditions such as electrode coating build-up, electrical noise and empty pipe conditions. Identifying these issues earlier can help reduce false readings, support faster troubleshooting and improve confidence in process measurements.

Emerson’s current product information also highlights process and device insights, data logging and advanced diagnostic capabilities as core features of the Rosemount 9000 Series.

Smart Meter Verification supports proactive maintenance

The Rosemount 9000 Series also incorporates Smart Meter Verification, Emerson’s technology for checking meter health and measurement performance.

Built-in verification allows users to assess the condition of the meter without removing the sensor from service or interrupting the process. Standard verification provides pass/fail diagnostics including sensor health checks.

An advanced verification option provides additional electrode and coil health information together with historical logging.

For operators, this can provide greater visibility of meter condition and help identify when investigation or maintenance may be required. It can also support regulatory requirements and reduce the need for traditional calibration activities in applications where verification can be used to confirm measurement performance.

Emerson states that Smart Meter Verification can help reduce calibration costs while maintaining confidence in flow measurement data.

The 9732 transmitter currently supports both Smart Meter Verification Basic and Pro. Emerson describes the Pro option as providing additional capabilities including customisable test limits, scheduled and continuous monitoring and access to historical verification reports.

Enhanced sensor design improves measurement stability

The Rosemount 9205 Magnetic Flow Sensor has been developed with an enhanced sensor design intended to improve measurement accuracy and long-term stability.

Design improvements include advanced magnetics, optimised sensor construction, a redesigned housing and intrinsically safe wiring. The system also requires 50% less power, according to Emerson.

The enhanced magnetics are designed to produce stronger and more stable signals, resulting in up to four times better out-of-the-box performance.

Emerson’s current product information describes the 9205 as providing stable and accurate flow measurement across a wide range of process conditions. The sensor is designed for demanding environments and works with the 9732 transmitter to provide access to advanced diagnostics and measurement information.

The 9205 also features intrinsically safe remote wiring, which can simplify installation in hazardous areas. Emerson states that its low-power design and digital communication between the sensor and transmitter support simplified remote mounting while maintaining measurement accuracy.

Simplified installation with universal power supply

The Rosemount 9000 Series is designed to simplify installation as well as ongoing operation.

A universal power supply allows the meter to accept either AC or DC power. This provides flexibility when deploying the technology across different sites and applications and can also be useful for retrofit projects.

The universal power capability is intended to reduce configuration errors and simplify set-up by removing the need to select different power configurations for different installations.

For global industrial operations with different electrical requirements between sites, this can make deployment more straightforward while reducing the risk of incorrect wiring.

Emerson’s product literature identifies universal AC/DC power compatibility as one of the features intended to simplify deployment and support more efficient installation.

Configurable outputs simplify system integration

The Rosemount 9000 Series also provides configurable outputs to support integration with different control system architectures.

The meter supports analogue, digital and pulse outputs along with user-defined scaling, alert mapping and fail-safe behaviour.

This flexibility allows the flow meter to be configured around the requirements of the control system rather than relying on a fixed output arrangement.

For project engineers and commissioning teams, configurable I/O can help reduce commissioning time and wiring errors while supporting integration with both legacy and modern control systems.

The 9732 transmitter also features flexible I/O and a universal service port, while wireless Bluetooth® configuration is available for setup and troubleshooting.

Magnetic flow measurement for demanding process industries

Magnetic flow meters are widely used for measuring conductive liquids in industrial processes. Reliable measurement is important in applications where flow data is used for process control, monitoring, production optimisation and resource management.

The Rosemount 9000 Series has been designed for demanding applications across a broad range of process industries, including chemical, oil and gas, refining and power. Supporting reliable flow measurement

The Rosemount 9000 Series brings together the 9732 Magnetic Flow Transmitter and 9205 Magnetic Flow Sensor as the initial products in the new platform.

The 9205 is available in line sizes from ½ to 8 inches, excluding 2.5-inch and 5-inch sizes, with additional sizes planned for future products in the 9000 Series.

The transmitter and sensor are engineered specifically as part of the 9000 Series platform. Emerson states that the 9732 is designed exclusively for use with the 9205 and future products in the 9000 Series rather than being backwards compatible with earlier 8700 Series sensors and transmitters.

Emerson says the new Rosemount 9000 Series Magnetic Flow Meter portfolio is intended to provide customers with more intelligent diagnostics, simplified operation and reliable measurement performance while reducing maintenance effort and supporting higher equipment availability.
