Smart, safe, small: new Watson-Marlow 114 peristaltic pumphead loaded with benefits
A new easy loading, yet rugged low flow pumphead has been launched by leading peristaltic pump specialist, Watson-Marlow Pumps Group. The 114 pumphead is “smart, safe and small”, offering a low flow pumphead alternative at an extremely competitive price.
Designers at Watson-Marlow Alitea have created the innovative 114 in response to calls for an advanced yet cost effective low flow pumphead in a compact configuration. It therefore complements Watson-Marlow’s existing and popular 313 pumphead, which has sold in hundreds of thousands for applications that range from milk shake vending to medical equipment and machinery.
The smart new 114 is stylish and modern; its “flip top” design is both attractive and functional. For extra pumphead longevity, strong and high performing materials are used to provide chemical/detergent resistance and outstanding temperature stability, while fixings and ball bearings are manufactured from high grade stainless steel. Additionally, gentle tube handling ensures tube life is maximised at all times.
Inherent safety features mean that no operator adjustments are necessary, providing long term robust and trouble-free running – flow rates up to 340ml/min can be achieved at 400 rpm using 4.8mm bore tube. The pumphead features a universal drive connection that suits 6-10mm drive shafts. Rotor movement can be witnessed through windows in the front of the unit as additional safety protocol, while other features such as custom colours, a logic off-switch and rotation sensor can be fitted, providing an additional layer of safety as required.
Simple to fit and small in size, the 114 is suitable for multiple individual pumphead installations. The single channel 114 measures just 64 x 64 x 41mm yet features a host of design functionality normally associated with larger and more expensive pumpheads. For instance, it offers four rollers for reduced pulsation, and spring loaded tube holders with automatic tube stretching for high accuracy and repetitive flow and pressure performance. Moreover, operation is entirely intuitive, hence no experience or training is necessary. For example, tubing can be loaded easily using one hand, in a matter of seconds.
The unique features of the 114 will have universal appeal across a range of sectors that include medical device manufacturers.
Here, dental, surgical and dialysis equipment OEMs are set to be the chief beneficiaries. Other industries targeted by Watson-Marlow include: biotech, pharmaceutical and instrumentation (fermentation/bioreactor control equipment, clinical diagnostic instruments, dosing reagent machines); chemical (water analysis equipment, TOC analysers, dosing machinery); and food (vending machines, dispensing equipment). With all of these sectors demanding high levels of hygiene, special design attention has been given to ensure the 114 pumphead is easy to clean and free of potential dirt traps.#]

About us
Watson-Marlow Fluid Technology Group (WMFTG) peristaltic tube and hose pumps meet requirements including: value for money; low cost of ownership; reliability and ease of maintenance to the food and beverage, chemical, pharmaceutical, mining and many other industries.
We demonstrate how pumps deliver significant process efficiencies over the lifetime of the equipment. Whether performing flavouring addition in food processing, chemical metering in water treatment or mineral recovery, we have a solution which can cut pump downtime and reduce costs through higher accuracy metering and transfer. WMFTG has dedicated application engineers available to help customers make the right pump and tubing choice from a range providing microlitres per minute to 80 cubic metres per hour flow rates.
The only part of the pump to come into contact with the product is the tube or hose. This means there are no seals or valves that can wear or fail. Replacing the tube or hose can be performed quickly and safely. Peristaltic pump benefits include:
Total fluid containment with no seals No ancillaries Handle viscous and abrasive slurries and sludge Self-priming capability Dry running without damage to the pump In addition to their range of positive displacement pumps, Watson-Marlow Fluid Technology Group has added PTFE-lined chemical and industrial hoses to their range. Aflex hoses are reinforced to withstand the most severe conditions and use.
