Stone Cold Success for Ellesmere Port Photographer

Listen to this article

A gifted Ellesmere Port photographer has snapped up a national photography prize.

Adrian Waine, aged 54, beat off fierce competition to carry off the specialist EEF National Manufacturing Photography Award.

He was named best professional photographer at the final of EEF’s manufacturing photography competition held in the House of Commons in London.
As well as the title Adrian walked away with a share of £5,000 in prizes. A professional photographer for 33 years he runs his own company Photography for Industry in the town.

The EEF, which describes itself as the voice of British manufacturing, says Adrian wowed judges with his eye-catching image Stone Slab Cutting taken at Natural Stone Surfaces’ 25,000 sq ft state of the art plant in Derby.

It captures the use of diamond tooling and Atlas Copco compressed air equipment to cut through marble slabs to make worktops for kitchens.

The competition, now in its eighth year, seeks creative images that capture the essence of modern manufacturing. Photographs can portray any stage of manufacturing from design, process and technology in action through to the finished product and can cover traditional or high-tech sectors.

Adrian, who works from his studio in Ellesmere Port for numerous international clients, said:

“Manufacturing is a fantastic subject matter offering such diverse opportunities for dramatic or challenging shots. It’s a very visual industry but still requires a good eye, lighting skills and patience to do it justice.

“It has been an honour seeing my work on display again in the House of Commons alongside so many other fantastic images of modern manufacturing.”

Stephen Phipson, chief executive officer at EEF, commented:

“Adrian and all the other talented photographers shortlisted this year are to be congratulated on their incredible images that brilliantly reflect the innovation and dynamism of our sector.”

Last year Adrian was runner-up having twice previously been shortlisted for his images.

Phil Black, editor of Process Industry Informer, comments;

“Adrian clearly knows his stuff and having seen his portfolio of work I can highly recommend his services. Images are a critical part of media and bring PR and articles to life and in todays social world increase the likeliness of social sharing tenfold – we know this for a fact.”
