Discover the Long-term Cost Benefits of Bredel Hose Pumps with Total Cost of Ownership Calculator
A new TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) calculator offers proof that Bredel hose pumps can save time, money and materials in challenging, abrasive fluid handling applications.
Developed by Bredel, a brand of Watson-Marlow Fluid Technology Group, the new Bredel TCO calculator supports existing users and new customers in the hose pump specification process – thereby ensuring ‘right pump, right application’. It also offers business-critical insight into the long-term cost benefits of Bredel technology when compared with air operated double diaphragm and progressive cavity (AODD and PC) pump types.
Designed for use on a mobile device, the Bredel TCO calculator is easy to operate. Users simply enter the necessary parameters including the flow rate and pressure;
Once the essential information is entered, the user will be given a direct comparison to show which model and size of Bredel pump will deliver optimal pumping and cost savings.
The Bredel team anticipate that users will be surprised at the level of operational savings shown by the TCO calculator in abrasive pumping applications. For example, the energy savings – by comparison with AODD pumps; and the maintenance savings and reduced downtime when compared to PC pumps.
Commenting on the launch of the Bredel TCO calculator, Rolf Sterken, Managing Director at Bredel said:
“Handling abrasive fluids is challenging for most pumps because particles in the fluid can quickly wear the pump components – and the wrong choice of pump can result in downtime, lost production revenue and high maintenance costs. Our new tool removes this issue: it adds a layer of ‘instant support’ in the specification process; and, crucially, it calculates the considerable operational and financial benefits that can be achieved through use of Bredel pumps and precision machined hoses.”
Ultimately, the TCO tool will also offer useful purchase-justification data in situations where an engineer needs to justify a move away from other pump technologies, or an ‘incumbent’ pump supplier.
Established process benefits
Bredel hose pumps offer a host of benefits over other pump types: they have no valves or seals to leak, clog or replace and provide flow rates to 108,000 litres/hour (475 USGPM) and pressures to 16bar (232psi). They are capable of pumping viscous and abrasive slurries, pastes and sludge, with up to 80% solids in suspension. In addition, a simple hose change takes only minutes and can be performed on site.
Mr Sterken concludes, “The TCO calculator will also demonstrate low cost maintenance characteristics of Bredel technology. This adds to the commercial reasons users of AODD and PC pumps are switching to Bredel for abrasive fluid pumping.”

About us
Watson-Marlow Fluid Technology Group (WMFTG) peristaltic tube and hose pumps meet requirements including: value for money; low cost of ownership; reliability and ease of maintenance to the food and beverage, chemical, pharmaceutical, mining and many other industries.
We demonstrate how pumps deliver significant process efficiencies over the lifetime of the equipment. Whether performing flavouring addition in food processing, chemical metering in water treatment or mineral recovery, we have a solution which can cut pump downtime and reduce costs through higher accuracy metering and transfer. WMFTG has dedicated application engineers available to help customers make the right pump and tubing choice from a range providing microlitres per minute to 80 cubic metres per hour flow rates.
The only part of the pump to come into contact with the product is the tube or hose. This means there are no seals or valves that can wear or fail. Replacing the tube or hose can be performed quickly and safely. Peristaltic pump benefits include:
Total fluid containment with no seals No ancillaries Handle viscous and abrasive slurries and sludge Self-priming capability Dry running without damage to the pump In addition to their range of positive displacement pumps, Watson-Marlow Fluid Technology Group has added PTFE-lined chemical and industrial hoses to their range. Aflex hoses are reinforced to withstand the most severe conditions and use.
