Up until the end of 2009, the town of Bedford had been experiencing an increase in air pollution, with many areas suffering Nitrogen dioxide (NO2) levels, primarily from motor vehicles, above the national air quality standards.
In a bid to reduce air pollution, comply with legislation in reviewing and assessing its air quality, and making the town cleaner and greener, Bedford Council has recently created a new Air Quality Management Area (AQMA) across the whole of the town centre to replace its four existing AQMAs encompassing individual traffic pollution hot spots. The Council chose Casella Monitor to install and maintain a series of real time monitoring stations to ensure the efficient and accurate measurement of air quality.
Bedford Council had previously purchased air quality monitoring equipment from Casella Monitor and had worked with the company on a number of projects. It selected them to provide the monitoring equipment for this important scheme because of the value for money offered by the company, as well as the high quality of its products.
A spokesperson from the Council states: “Bedford Council has found Casella Monitor to be extremely helpful, reliable and adaptable”.
