DELPHI TESTS FUEL INJECTORS WITH LITRE METER FLOWMETERS
Delphi Diesel in India is testing fuel injectors with 15 custom-built flowmeters supplied by leading UK designer, manufacturer and supplier Litre Meter. The meters are based on modified designs originally produced for Delphi Spain.
Litre Meter created three bespoke versions of its Pelton Wheel flowmeter to accurately measure flow rates of fuel when testing three different sizes of fuel injector. The company also fitted special connections to the instruments so they would integrate with Delphi’s test equipment.
Precise and accurate control of fuel injector parameters such as timing, delivery, instantaneous flow rate, pressure and spray configuration are essential to achieving clean burning and high thermodynamic efficiency – factors that are critical for meeting engine emissions, performance and fuel economy standards.
The flowmeters have been designed to measure flow rates between 0.01 – 0.25 litres per minute, 0.03 – 3.9 litres per minute and 0.06 – 6.3 litres per minute to an accuracy of ± 2 per cent of measured value. They are rated up to 40 bar.
The Pelton Wheel flowmeters have a custom-built stainless steel cover fitted which is resistant to corrosive liquids. Ferrules and connectors are also supplied to enable the instruments to be connected to 8 mm plastic pipes.
“This application is a perfect example of our ability to custom-build flowmeters for specific applications,” said Litre Meter CEO Charles Wemyss.
“By taking one of our standard flowmeter products we were able to re-engineer it for Delphi to meet specific end user requirements.”
