RUGGED AND VERSATILE DISPLAY PLATFORM FOR FLOW MONITORING WITH INDUSTRIAL OVAL GEAR METERS

Compact and easy-to-use flow monitor is designed for demanding application environments
Badger Meter announces the introduction of the ER-500 Series flow monitor, which provides a flexible and easy-to-use display platform for monitoring flow metrics in the most challenging environments. The durable, NEMA 4X-rated design of the enclosure broadens the applications for Badger Meter Industrial Oval Gear (Model IOG) flow meters.

Equipped with a suite of powerful, user-friendly operating features and advanced connectivity options, the ER-500 allows users to connect meters to a network for remote monitoring and process automation capabilities. Multi-point linearisation tables are supported in all models, enabling increased reading accuracy. Additionally, robust alarm parameters provide faster warning when a change occurs in the process or pipeline.
According to Peter Vander Grinten, marketing manager, Badger Meter, the ER-500 is a superior alternative to conventional flow monitors in measurement applications involving very viscous or highly corrosive liquids. This includes petroleum-based fluid measurement and any other liquid compatible with the monitored flow sensor.
“The ER-500 enables users to optimize their flow metering performance, even under the most demanding operating conditions,” Vander Grinten said. “With a wide variety of enclosure options for both liquid and gas applications, including intrinsically safe designs, the flow monitor can meet almost any application requirement. It is rated for installation in Class I, Div. 1 hazardous areas, and can be mounted directly on a flow sensor, pipe or DIN-rail. The ER-500 is well-suited for industries ranging from chemical, petrochemical and oil and gas, to water and wastewater, food and beverage, pulp and paper, paints and coatings, and printing.”
The ER-500 makes it easy to monitor flow with a crisp dot-matrix display and enhanced totalization options, which deliver more information at the user”s fingertips. Highly accurate and repeatable, the flow monitor offers simultaneous display of rate and total, as well as standard, batch and grand totals. Accessing the powerful extended programming mode is as easy as pressing a single button. The standard communications interface is 4-20 mA and total pulse, while the advanced interface adds two control alarms and Modbus RTU over RS485 connectivity.
Engineered with smart management of power in mind, the ER-500 features extremely low power consumption in normal operating conditions and provides the option for both 4-20 mA loop and battery-power. Users never have to worry about losing power, and the onboard battery will last in excess of six years. Plus, the device can be installed in a remote location and be up and running immediately.
The new flow monitor improves the versatility of the Model IOG Series meters, which are available in a complete line of 1/4 to 3 inch sizes. The meter line is designed to measure very viscous (up to 1,000 cP) and caustic fluids, such as oils, coolants, fuels, lubricants, ink, paint, water solutions, and any other liquid compatible with the materials of construction. The flow meters provide high accuracy (± 0.5…± 1 percent) and excellent repeatability (± 0.03 percent), even in low-flow environments, and measure liquid flows as low as 0.07 gallons per minute (gpm) and up to 185 gpm.
Model IOG meters deliver precise flow measurements to eliminate waste, and thanks to their low pressure drop, have minimal impact on system energy requirements to move liquids. They also utilise a minimum number of wearable parts for long service life and easy field maintenance.
