& IE – Electromagnetic Flow
Achieving the Holy Trinity of water sustainability
ABOUT THIS EPISODE
In this latest podcast Dave speaks with Alan Hunt, ABB Product Manager UK & IE – Electromagnetic Flow. Here Alan discusses issues around water use and water conservancy and his passion about what he calls the “Holy Trinity” of water sustainability.
Water companies are saddled with the burden of matching supply with demand, but we as consumers both as process industry consumers and as individuals must also play our part in reducing consumption and ensuring the waste we discharge into water courses meet or exceeds regulatory minimum quality standards.
The ‘Holy Trinity’ covers;
Leakage – how can the 3.1billion litres of water that are lost daily from the water network be reduced to more sustainable levels?
Environment – how do we collectively ensure that the water we discharge into water courses is not going to pollute it, and what has been the impact of MCERTS on the measurement of the quantity and quality of water discharged to the environment by municipal and industrial treatment plants?
Responsibility – it is up to us all to ensure we have enough water to sustain demand. The desire to be a good neighbour/good citizen now extends to company values too.
Other topics include:
- – How new technologies such as acoustic loggers and even detection from space are joining the fight against water leakage.
- – Is the current highly sensitive debate about the impact industry has on the environment making it difficult for companies to comply with water quality regulations?
- – Do companies have an adequate technology stack to monitor their water usage and how they dispose of waste?
- – Key advice when choosing the best of breed flowmeter technology
- – The role of Digital Signal Processing (DSP) technology in improving measurement accuracy
- – Water Technology List (WTL)
- – How water management will evolve in the future?
