New facility expands Emerson’s automation and industrial technology footprint across the Middle East and Africa

Emerson is planning to build a new automation solutions service centre in Qatar, expanding its local capabilities for customers across the Middle East and Africa.

The Emerson Middle East & Africa Service Center will be located in the Umm Alhoul Free Zone and will provide a range of automation, measurement and service capabilities.

The 3,500-square-metre facility will include Qatar’s first certified in-country flow calibration lab as well as services and infrastructure intended to help customers optimise operations, reduce turnaround times and accelerate project execution.

The new facility is also intended to support customers by reducing operational disruptions and providing greater access to automation technology, spare parts, training and integration services within the region.

According to Emerson, the investment demonstrates its commitment to in-country value creation and economic development while expanding its industrial technology presence across the Middle East and Africa.

Emerson expands automation services in Qatar

The new service and operations centre will give Emerson additional capabilities in Qatar while supporting customers across the wider Middle East and Africa region.

A key element of the facility will be the region’s first certified in-country flow calibration laboratory. The laboratory will be equipped to calibrate large-size flow meters used in high-pressure and high-volume operations.

Having flow calibration capability within Qatar is intended to help customers reduce operational disruption and speed up the process of returning equipment to service.

For industrial facilities where accurate flow measurement is important to process control, production and asset performance, access to local calibration services can also reduce the need for equipment to be sent outside the country for servicing.

The centre will bring together several automation and measurement capabilities under one location, providing customers with access to technical services and support as well as equipment and training.

“This new investment reflects Emerson’s strategic commitment to accelerating innovation in Qatar and supporting the Middle East’s most critical operations,” said Judson Duncan, group president of Global Sales at Emerson. “Our additional capabilities will enable customers to operate with greater agility, reliability and cost efficiency.”

Supporting Qatar National Vision 2030

The new 3,500-square-metre facility reinforces Emerson’s expanding industrial technology presence in the region and advances objectives associated with Qatar National Vision 2030 around economic growth and diversification.

Qatar National Vision 2030 identifies economic development as one of its four interconnected pillars. Its economic development objectives include building a diversified and competitive economy, encouraging private sector growth and supporting sustainable development.

Qatar’s current national development strategy also places emphasis on developing new economic sectors and industries while reducing dependence on the hydrocarbon sector.

Against this backdrop, the new Emerson facility adds to the company’s existing footprint of manufacturing, service and distribution locations in the Middle East, including operations in Saudi Arabia and the UAE. Emerson also has a network of accredited service partners across the region.

The investment therefore provides additional local infrastructure for industrial automation, measurement and service activities while contributing to the development of technical capabilities within Qatar.

New capabilities for Qatar’s industrial sector

The Emerson Middle East & Africa Service Center will provide a range of services and resources designed to support industrial customers and their automation requirements.

In addition to its flow calibration capabilities, the Qatar facility will feature:

Measurement instrumentation solutions and skid training systems
Off-the-shelf inventory and spare parts distribution
A training and experience centre for customer operations teams
Staging and integration services for distributed control systems

These capabilities cover several stages of the automation lifecycle, from equipment and spare parts availability through to training, system staging, integration and measurement services.

For customers operating complex industrial facilities, having access to local inventory and technical services can help simplify maintenance and project activities. The training and experience centre will also provide a dedicated environment for customer operations teams to develop their knowledge of Emerson technologies and automation systems.

Flow calibration and measurement instrumentation

Flow measurement is an important part of industrial process control, with accurate flow data used across applications involving the movement of liquids and gases.

The new Qatar flow calibration laboratory will be equipped to calibrate large-size flow meters for high-pressure and high-volume operations. This gives the facility a specific role in supporting customers with demanding flow measurement requirements.

The availability of certified calibration services within Qatar is also intended to support faster turnaround. Emerson says the facility will help customers reduce operational disruptions and accelerate time-to-market.

The wider measurement instrumentation capability will complement the flow calibration laboratory, giving customers access to additional Emerson technologies and services from the new centre.

Automation systems staging and integration

The new facility will also provide staging and integration services for distributed control systems (DCS).

Staging automation systems before they are deployed at an operating facility can provide an opportunity to prepare and integrate equipment before installation.

For larger industrial projects, this can help project teams manage system preparation and reduce the amount of work that needs to be completed during the installation phase.

The Qatar centre will therefore support customers not only through ongoing service and maintenance activities but also through automation project execution.

This is particularly relevant to projects where distributed control systems and measurement instrumentation form part of wider plant automation infrastructure.

Training and experience centre

Training will form another part of the new facility, with a dedicated training and experience centre planned for customer operations teams.

Industrial automation systems require operators and engineering teams to have a detailed understanding of the technologies they use. Providing training facilities alongside technical services and equipment can give customers a local resource for developing operational knowledge.

The centre will also include skid training systems for measurement instrumentation solutions, providing another practical element to Emerson’s planned customer support capabilities.

Phased opening from December 2026

The Emerson Middle East & Africa Service Center is planned to open in phases.

Control systems staging and measurement solutions services, spares inventory and the training centre are scheduled to open in December 2026. The certified flow calibration laboratory is planned to open in early 2027.

The phased approach will allow Emerson to bring individual capabilities online progressively rather than waiting for the complete facility to become operational.

Once fully operational, the centre will provide a combination of automation services, measurement instrumentation, flow calibration, spare parts, training and system integration capabilities from its location in the Umm Alhoul Free Zone.

Qatar Free Zone signing

The announcement was formalised at a signing ceremony held on the sidelines of the Qatar Economic Forum (QEF) in New York City.

The ceremony included Qatar Free Zones Authority dignitaries, including Sheikh Mohammed Bin Hamad Bin Faisal Al-Thani, chief executive officer of Qatar Free Zones Authority, and Sheikh Faisal bin Thani bin Faisal Al-Thani, minister of commerce and industry and chairman of Qatar Free Zones Authority.

The partnership brings together Emerson’s industrial automation and measurement capabilities with Qatar’s free-zone infrastructure and wider economic development objectives.

Qatar’s government identifies free zones as part of its efforts to attract investment and support economic diversification.

Expanding Emerson’s Middle East and Africa presence

The new Qatar service centre represents a further expansion of Emerson’s industrial automation and technology infrastructure in the Middle East and Africa.

By combining local flow calibration, measurement instrumentation services, automation system staging, spare parts distribution and customer training, the facility is designed to provide a broader range of support closer to the industrial customers it serves.

For customers in Qatar and across the wider region, the centre is intended to improve access to technical services and automation technologies while helping reduce turnaround times and support more efficient project delivery.

The Emerson Middle East & Africa Service Center is planned to become another part of the company’s regional service network as Emerson expands its capabilities in automation, measurement and industrial technology.
