Fulton Reintroduces FBS Horizontal Steam Boiler

Listen to this article

Fulton is bringing back its FBS horizontal firetube steam boiler to the UK, responding to the rising demand for high-output steam solutions, especially in spaces where vertical models like the VSRT just won’t fit due to height restrictions.

Built for tough process environments, the FBS range will be available in the UK, offering steam outputs of up to around six tonnes per hour.

Mat King, Sales & Marketing Manager at Fulton, shared:

“We’re excited to reintroduce the well-loved FBS to the UK market for those who need substantial steam outputs but lack the vertical space for traditional boilers. The FBS has already made a name for itself globally and here in the UK, and it’s set to deliver the reliable performance our customers expect, all while fitting neatly into their available space to keep projects on track.”

High-Output Steam Performance

The FBS is crafted to deliver strong steam output for facilities that operate under sustained, high-demand conditions, such as manufacturing plants, food and beverage processing facilities, and large-scale laundry and dry-cleaning operations.

With eight models to choose from, steam outputs range from 960 kg/h to 6,260 kg/h, allowing operators to pick a boiler that perfectly aligns with their load requirements.

Fulton’s innovative three-pass design ensures efficient combustion. The corrugated furnaces enhance the heat transfer surface area while allowing for thermal expansion, which helps maintain structural integrity and reduces fuel consumption and operating costs over time.

Horizontal Design for Low-Headroom Plant Rooms

As a horizontal firetube boiler, the FBS is ideal for plant rooms where low ceiling heights make it difficult to install vertical steam boilers, all while delivering high steam output and quality.

Its ample water content and steam volume are designed to ensure stable operation and produce high-quality, dry steam, which supports consistent process results and dependable plant performance.

A fully water-backed turnaround and a thoughtfully designed pressure vessel work together to minimize thermal stress and enhance the lifespan of the boiler, even in tough operating conditions.

King added:

“Plant operators are looking for dependable steam, predictable operating costs, and the assurance that their boiler choice aligns with their emissions strategy. The FBS delivers that assurance, featuring a low NOx burner, high efficiency, and Fulton’s trusted firetube design to create a boiler that performs exceptionally today while being prepared for the challenges of tomorrow.”

Low NOx Performance and Multiple Fuel Options

Fulton has outfitted the FBS with a low NOx burner package that helps the boiler comply with current emissions standards, including the Medium Combustion Plant Directive (MCPD), when tailored to the specific site.

There are burner options available for gas, oil, or dual-fuel operation, offering extra flexibility for facilities that need a secondary fuel option due to fuel availability, supply security, or resilience strategies.

Thanks to its high efficiency and advanced burner technology, the boiler also supports decarbonization efforts by enabling operators to cut down on fuel consumption and related emissions.

Designed for Durability and Lower Ownership Costs

The FBS boasts pressure vessel thicknesses that surpass the minimum requirements set by relevant codes, and its tubes are notably thicker than many standard industry designs, as noted by Fulton. These characteristics contribute to the boiler’s sturdy construction and extended service life.

With hinged front and rear doors, accessing the fireside for inspection and maintenance is a breeze. Seal-welded tubes and a fully water-backed rear turnaround are engineered to minimize the risk of leaks and reduce maintenance-related downtime.

For applications that demand higher efficiency, the FBS can also come equipped with a flue gas economizer. Each boiler is provided with brackets and supports that make retrofitting an economizer later on a hassle-free process.

High-density insulation plays a crucial role in minimizing heat loss from the jacket, which boosts the overall efficiency of the system. This not only helps operators save on energy costs but also lowers the total cost of ownership throughout the boiler’s lifespan.
