Heavy Duty Filtration Solutions for Power Generation Applications

Synonymous with highly reliable, robust, long-lasting products, the SPX’s Plenty brand has been supplying filtration products to the power generation industry for over 50 years. Once installed, a Plenty filter or strainer will work reliably for years and is designed to minimise maintenance costs whilst offering exceptional performance.

Plenty strainers are available in “Simplex” and “Duplex” designs and are used throughout power stations and generation facilities to protect valuable operation- critical equipment from damage caused by debris or foreign particulates passing through pipelines.

The “Duplex” strainers offer two filtration chambers with an integral flow changeover valve, enabling cleaning and replacement of baskets to be carried out without any interruption to the flow ensuring that one of the chambers is always in operation for continuous service. The baskets themselves are of a two-piece design which incorporates a replaceable mesh insert. This makes changing the level of filtration easy and cost-effective as only the insert, not the whole basket, can be replaced if a different level of filtration is required. Both the “Simplex” and “Duplex” units benefit from quick release covers with large, viewable cross-sectional basket areas to minimising down time for cleaning. The large basket area not only increases the intervals between cleaning but also ensures the pressure drop across the strainer is kept as low as possible.

To ensure operations continue to run smoothly and that premature maintenance is not carried out, all of the strainers can be fitted with differential pressure gauges or switches. These can be used to indicate to a local operator that cleaning is required or alternatively for signalling to local control systems or SCADA systems to alert operators as to when vessels are near to blinding.

SPX can fabricate its Plenty strainers to meet a customer’s unique specification in a wide choice of materials including Carbon Steel, Stainless Steel, Duplex and Super Duplex. Vessels can be engineered to meet exceptionally high flows, pressures or special application needs with customised flanges, vents, differential pressure connections, covers, paint systems and baskets.
