Industrial Ethernet interfaces for SK 200E line of distributed frequency inverters from NORD

Listen to this article

Following the successful establishment of fieldbus technology in automation, Industrial Ethernet is becoming the widely accepted communication standard today. Its benefits are evident: bandwidth and permissible cable lengths are practically unlimited, and the necessary network components are becoming cheaper and cheaper. Ensuring the suitability of the SK 200E series distributed frequency inverter for all communication requirements and for every application, NORD DRIVESYSTEMS continuously expands its range of fieldbus and Ethernet interface options for these units.

In addition to fieldbus interfaces for CANopen, DeviceNet, and Profibus, NORD offers gateways for connecting the inverters to PROFINET and EtherCAT networks. Interfaces for other Industrial Ethernet standards are in development. The next to come are POWERLINK and EtherNet/IP with an interface for the PROFIsafe safety protocol also under way. The fieldbus communication interfaces are available as external bus technology units – optionally with or without additional I/Os – for straightforward and flexible mounting either directly on the SK 200E inverter or separately on the machine frame or other equipment. Alternatively, they are available as internal modules that extend the integrated functional range without altering the dimensions of the inverter. Due to the integrated proprietary system bus, up to four SK 200E frequency inverters can be connected to the higher level bus system via a single technology unit. The system bus tunnels the parameter data, making all the participants’ data sets available at every RS232 interface on the connected inverters and the technology unit. NORD supplies the distributed SK 200E inverters, which are designed for mounting on the motor terminal box, in sizes 1 to 4 with outputs between 0.25 and 22 kW. Different variants, various performance grades, and a range of upgrade options enable cost-efficient and customized drive solutions for any distributed application from fan or pump operation all the way to complex positioning tasks.
