KEY EXCHANGE BOX GUARANTEES SAFE MACHINE MAINTENANCE
– 100% stainless steel NX1000 protects several operators acting simultaneously –
French safety specialist SERV Trayvou Interverrouillage (STI) has introduced a key exchange box, the NX1000.
The NX1000 allows a set of keys to be made available through a system of exchange. An initial key is inserted into the exchange box to release three keys that give access to dangerous areas or machines whose safety conditions have already been satisfied. For example, a machine that has been turned off, an electric circuit that has been opened and locked off or a hydraulic system that has been prevented from operating will all allow the three access keys to be released.
As long as these three keys are not returned to the exchange box, the initial key remains trapped. It is therefore impossible for the machine or installation to be restarted while maintenance work is in progress.
The NX1000, like most of the systems recommended by STI, forces operators to ensure that one or more conditions have been fulfilled before they are able to release the access keys. In addition, the NX1000 is made entirely from stainless steel, making it suitable for use in corrosive or dusty environments.
It should be noted that the number of initial and / or access keys can be varied according to the specific requirements of a particular installation.
