NON-CHEMICAL SOLUTION TO MEMBRANE FOULING IN REVERSE OSMOSIS PLANT

Fouling of RO membranes is a constant problem and gives rise to increased energy costs and the need to use environment damaging chemicals, fouling also gives reduced yield from the RO plant .. all of which are problems for the RO plant operator.

Now there is a non chemical solution Fluid Dynamics catalytic scale prevention system has been proven to reduce energy costs , increase output and dramatically reduce chemical usage when installed before an RO system.

The proof:

Mitsui Speciality Chemicals need pure water for their manufacturing process and have a reverse osmosis system capable of treating 500m3 a day of feed water.

In November 2010 they installed a Colloid-A-Tron non chemical scale prevention system on the inlet to the membranes after the feed pump.

The results:

Energy Saving: As the membranes did not scale up so much so the amount of energy used by the pump reduced by almost 10%
Increased Yield: in addition the membranes became more efficient moving from an RO brine ratio of 50:50 to one of 55:45
Reduced Chemical Usage: Anti scaling chemical usage dropped by 35% after installation of the Colloid-A-Tron… Biocide chemical addition has been reduced by 80% after the installation of the Colloid-A-Tron
