Latest Safety Execution Centre Certified with Functional Safety Management System
ABB Poland is the latest Safety Execution Centre implementing the TÜV recognised Functional Safety Management System (FSMS) extending ABB’s #1 Industry leading position for in-country accredited certification
ABB’s Safety Execution Center (SEC) in Wroclaw, Poland has been certified by TÜV as having in place and applying a functional safety management system (FSMS) for the delivery and implementation of safety system projects in accordance to international industry standards. These standards include IEC 61508 and IEC 61511 for integration and implementation of safety instrumented systems (SIS).
ABB continues its programme of developing in-country safety execution centres with TÜV certification for FSMS delivery and implementation and has more in-country accredited certification than any other supplier in the industry. These centres are located in every region of the world. Seventeen of ABB’s SECs have so far been certified by both TÜV Rheinland and TÜV Sud, as the leading world specialists in the assessment and certification of organisations and products to relevant safety standards. The programme managed by the ABB safety lead competency centre (SLCC) continues with a further 8 additional safety centres working towards the same goal.
ABB’s proven methodology (developed by Stuart R. Nunns, Global FS Expert) for delivering safety systems meets international standards and best practices, and ensures consistent, flawless execution of these projects all over the world.
In Poland, ABB’s Oil and Gas business has implemented numerous safety systems for safety related applications covering all types of protective and mitigation safety instrumented systems (SIS) such as emergency shutdown (ESD), process shutdown (PSD), fire & gas (F&G) and burner managements systems (BMS), etc.
“Achieving this significant milestone provides our customers the benefit and assurance of safety projects delivered in accordance with industry good practice and recognised safety standards. This local certification is a great advantage to our customers when making decisions regarding their operational risk reduction requirements by demonstrating our commitment, via the assurance of an independent certification organisation, that ABB develops and delivers SIS products and services according to the international safety standards”, said Robert Szczotka , PA Division Manager of ABB in Poland.
TÜV certification recognises that ABB’s functional safety management system complies with international standards and best practices for its products, engineering and project teams and installation methods. It meets all relevant sections of the international standards IEC 61508 and IEC 61511 for integration and implementation of SIS, including system configuration, application programming, test and front end safety consulting for specific industrial safety applications.
ABB has been at the forefront of safety system development and delivery for over 35 years, when it commissioned the first ESD system on the Statfjord B offshore oil platform in the North Sea in the late 1970’s. ABB continues to be at the leading edge of providing functional safety project management, SIL capable products & systems, process and functional safety consultancy and lifecycle service support for SIS.
