Sanitary Paddle Blender Delivers Enhanced Shear Performance
A new Munson Sanitary Paddle Blender with two intensifiers blends, de-agglomerates and disperses dry bulk materials, pastes, slurries and emulsions in batches up to 0.34 m³.
Designed for demanding sanitary processing applications across the food, pharmaceutical, chemical and industrial manufacturing sectors, the blender combines paddle agitation with high-speed intensification to achieve highly uniform product consistency. The system is particularly suited to applications requiring effective agglomerate reduction and the incorporation of liquids into dry materials.
Driven by a 3.73 kW wash-down duty motor, the shaft is configured with 16 radial arms and short-length paddles that move material in smaller zones over shorter distances, providing greater cutting action than ribbon-style agitators. This design enables more effective shear forces throughout the batch, promoting rapid mixing and improved product homogeneity.
Two tulip-shaped intensifiers, also known as high-speed choppers, are mounted within the vessel. Each intensifier is independently driven by a 3.73 kW wash-down duty motor and imparts additional shear to break down agglomerates and disperse difficult-to-blend materials. This enhanced processing capability makes the unit suitable for handling a wide range of challenging formulations, from dry powders through to viscous pastes and emulsions.
The combined action of the paddles and intensifiers produces uniform blends of dry solid materials and mixtures containing low or high percentages of liquids, resulting in smooth pastes, slurries and consistent end products. By combining blending, de-agglomeration and dispersion in a single machine, the system can help manufacturers improve process efficiency while maintaining product quality.

Designated Model HD-24-SSI, the unit is constructed from #304 stainless steel and finished to sanitary standards. Its one-piece welded construction, heavy-gauge walls and reinforced end panels allow the paddles to pass within 1.6 to 3.2 mm of the vessel wall, minimising residual material that must be removed before cleaning. This close-clearance design helps reduce product build-up and supports efficient cleaning procedures in hygienic processing environments.
To simplify maintenance and servicing, the flange-mounted agitator can be hoisted vertically, providing convenient access to internal components. The robust construction also supports long-term reliability in continuous production settings.
Munson horizontal stationary blenders are equipped as standard with hinged and gasketed cover sections, removable grating with safety interlocks and a bottom discharge valve. These features help improve operational safety, simplify material handling and facilitate efficient batch discharge.
In addition to the Sanitary Paddle Blender range, Munson manufactures a comprehensive portfolio of mixing and blending equipment including Rotary Batch Mixers, Vee-Cone Blenders, Fluidised Bed Mixers, Rotary Continuous Mixers and Variable Intensity Mixers.
The company's size reduction equipment range includes Screen Classifying Cutters, Pin Mills, Attrition Mills, Lump Breakers, Rotary Knife Cutters, Hammer Mills and Shredders, providing processing solutions for a broad spectrum of bulk material handling applications.
For manufacturers seeking high-shear blending equipment capable of handling dry powders, bulk solids, slurries, emulsions and paste formulations, the Munson Sanitary Paddle Blender offers a versatile solution that combines efficient mixing, de-agglomeration and dispersion within a sanitary stainless steel design.
