Siemens expands industrial communications offering with RuggedCom acquisition
Siemens has announced its acquisition of specialist communications network solutions provider RuggedCom last year, to expand its offering to businesses operating in harsh environments. As of now Siemens will start sales of the complete RuggedCom portfolio in the United Kingdom.
The acquisition sees the extension of the Siemens industrial communications range. The business can now offer a full spectrum of solutions for operation in rugged environments such as utilities and transport operations.
The new product offering will work in conjunction with the leading Scalance range from Siemens and, importantly, offers users remote access and monitoring for complete integration into the plant and increased operational efficiency.
Juergen Maier, managing director, Siemens Industry comments: “The acquisition of RuggedCom means Siemens can now further service customers operating mission-critical applications in harsh environments. It is testament to our investment in industry and our drive to ensure we have a complete range of solutions available to businesses and a dedicated team of experts to provide advice and assistance.”
Ian Poulett, head of sales, industrial switches and routers, Siemens Industry adds: “Importantly, the products are rugged by design, not retrofit, which is why RuggedCom leads its field. The full range meets with industry standards so users can be reassured they are fully compliant with legislation. What this means is that we measure above and beyond most industry standards and really add value to applications utilised in a harsh environments.”
