Widescreen monitor choice for industrial automation applications from Siemens
Leading the way with widescreen format displays for industrial automation applications, Siemens Industry has expanded its offering to include the new SIMATIC Industrial Flat Panels in widescreen format.
Industrial Flat Panels are robust industrial LCD monitors, aimed at operator interface applications for machine control or SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems. The widescreen aspect ratio provides a better format for touch-screen operations where function keys and persistent menus can be included in the wider marginal areas.
The new products have won the “iF Product Design Award 2012” for their slender, yet robust die-cast aluminum frame. Designed to be maintenance-free, the panel-mount devices can be connected to industrial PCs at distances of up to 30 metres.
SIMATIC Industrial Flat Panels are equipped with high quality TFT widescreen displays with 15″, 19″ and 22″ diagonals providing high brightness, high colour depth, high resolution and very good readability from all angles. They are optionally available as pure displays, with touch input, or combined with control keys (15” only).
SIMATIC Industrial Flat panels perform 24-hour continuous operation and also meet high-temperature, vibration, shock and electromagnetic compatibility requirements.
The energy-saving LED-backlighting can be continuously dimmed by up to 100 percent and is especially long-lasting and very luminous making it suitable for brightly lit working environments and for rough industrial environments with extended approvals, e.g EX 2/22 and marine applications.
There is also a 15-inch touch version with function keys, a front USB port and a keypad. All non-function key devices can also be mounted vertically if space is restricted. They are connected via DVI-D or the new DisplayPort interface.
Paul Herron from Siemens Industry says: “One major benefit of having widescreen industrial monitors is the ability to match the aspect ratio of all displays across plant-wide SCADA applications. This means graphic displays developed to fit to a control-room desk monitor can easily be shown on a plant-floor based industrial flat panel monitor without any costly re-scaling.”
