Southern Water invests £17 million in refurbishing Hardham Water Supply Works
Southern Water is investing £17 million in refurbishing its Hardham Water Supply Works at Pulborough in West Sussex.
The improvement plan will raise the quality of water at the Hardham site and will provide the supply of drinking water to consumers for many years to come. The construction started in April 2022 and will finish by the end of 2026.
The plan, which is being executed by Trant Engineering, includes 18 schemes featuring essential upgrading, refurbishment and replacement of current assets to improve treatment processes.
Trant Engineering Senior Project Manager Adrian Atherton said, “Crucially, the works must be completed without interrupting supply to thousands of properties within the network area. We are still working very closely with Southern Water's team to make this happen.“
Located near the rivers Arun and Rother, the scheme included environmental audits at significant phases to watch and minimize its environmental impact.
Matthew Park, Project Manager at Southern Water, said, “The completion of the regulating valve installation to deliver continuous supply and to meet the critical DWI regulatory date has been the most significant milestone. With the criticality of this aspect of the project, Trant management has been first class.”
Trant Engineering finished the regulating valve installation in April 2025, more than two years ahead of the DWI regulatory deadline of September 2027.
