Global automation and industrial technology company Emerson has announced a new strategic collaboration with Equinor focused on supplying advanced measurement instrumentation technologies, analytical solutions and lifecycle services across the energy company’s global offshore and onshore operations.
The 13-year frame agreement, which includes options, is intended to support Equinor’s operational objectives by helping accelerate development, extend field life, improve recovery and advance the standardisation of operations across its global asset portfolio.
The agreement brings together process measurement, analytical technology and industrial automation as part of the companies’ ongoing efforts to improve operational performance. Reliable measurement instrumentation is fundamental to process control, providing operators with information on variables such as flow, pressure, temperature and other critical process conditions.
Supporting digitalisation and process automation
Under the agreement, Emerson will provide Equinor with its broad portfolio of measurement instrumentation and analytical technologies alongside lifecycle services. These solutions are intended to help Equinor optimise production and equipment performance while supporting reliable, safe and efficient operations across its assets.
The collaboration also builds on the companies’ existing digitalisation and automation initiatives. By combining measurement technologies with digital and automation systems, industrial operators can gain greater visibility of process conditions and use real-time information to support more consistent and efficient operations.
For large-scale energy assets, accurate process measurement can play an important role in maintaining production performance, identifying changes in operating conditions and supporting asset management throughout the lifecycle of a facility.
Process instrumentation typically encompasses technologies for measuring parameters including flow, pressure, level and temperature as well as analytical measurements.
Emerson’s portfolio will therefore support Equinor’s wider objectives around operational excellence while helping standardise measurement and automation approaches across its onshore and offshore operations.
More than 40 years of collaboration
The new agreement strengthens a relationship between Emerson and Equinor that extends back more than four decades.
Equinor has worked with Emerson for over 40 years and has deployed a wide range of its automation and measurement technologies. These include subsea multiphase flow meters, downhole monitoring systems, valves, emissions management systems, control systems, asset management systems and safety, pressure and temperature measurement instrumentation.
The latest agreement expands this established relationship by placing measurement instrumentation and analytical technologies at the centre of a longer-term collaboration covering Equinor’s global energy operations.
The use of advanced measurement technologies is particularly important across complex offshore and onshore facilities where accurate process data can support production optimisation, equipment reliability and operational safety.
Supporting Equinor’s Norwegian Continental Shelf strategy
The collaboration will also support Equinor’s Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS) 2035 initiatives. These initiatives are focused on maintaining production and improving recovery from Equinor’s Norwegian Continental Shelf portfolio.
For Equinor, extending field life and improving recovery can help maximise the value of existing energy assets while supporting the company’s broader operational objectives. The agreement is also intended to contribute to the standardisation of operations, helping create more consistent approaches to measurement and automation across different facilities and assets.
