New scratch-resistant coating from 3M takes eyewear performance to the next level

Listen to this article

An innovative development in the Maxim Series of safety eyewear from diversified technology company 3M leverages more than 50 years of coating chemistry to offer a coating that is five times more scratch resistant than the company’s generic hard coats.

The Maxim Safety Eyewear Series from 3M now includes two additional products in the range, which have been coated with the new 3M Rugged Anti-Scratch (RAS) Coating. The super-hard coating gives excellent protection in the toughest environments helping to ensure that lenses stay clear and free of scratches for substantially longer periods. As well as reducing replacement costs by extending lens life, the RAS hard coating is designed for tough, hazardous environments and also offers good resistance to degradation caused by contact with chemicals.

RAS coated lenses are designed for a wide range of applications, including chiselling, drilling, milling, machining, riveting, sanding and sawing.

Maxim and Maxim Ballistic
The RAS coating is available with both Maxim and Maxim Ballistic eyewear products from 3M.  Designed to offer excellent coverage with a good field of vision, both versions of the safety eyewear incorporate an adjustable pantoscopic angle – the angle of the lens frame to the temple – and adjustable length side-arms. The Maxim Ballistic eyewear products from 3M also have soft-touch temple tips for increased comfort. Frames are available in black and grey.

Certified safety
The Maxim and Maxim Ballistic eyewear products are CE marked and meet the requirements of EN166:2001. Both models are Optical Class 1 for prolonged comfortable wear and offer excellent UV protection. The spectacles are FT rated for protection against high-speed particles at low energy in extreme temperature conditions between -5°C and +55°C. The lenses carry the K marking to indicate resistance to surface damage by fine particles. The Maxim Ballistic [please correct trademark use] is also tested against the STANAG 2920 ballistic standard.
