Omron NQ HMIs add Ethernet connectivity
The versatility of Omron’s newest NQ range of touch-screen HMI terminals has now been further enhanced by the addition of models with Ethernet connectivity. Using Ethernet, the new terminals can be connected to multiple Omron programmable and motion controllers, via links up to 100 metres in length. This makes them easy to integrate with automation systems of all types, from the simplest to the more complex.
The Ethernet ports on the new terminals are pre-configured to allow immediate out-of-the-box operation, and can not only be used to communicate with control devices such as the Omron CP1 PLC family or inverter ranges, but also for up- and downloading project data. By using Omron’s FINS Ethernet protocol it is even possible for external PC applications to read from and write to the data memory inside the NQ HMI terminal, thereby facilitating data sharing.
The new Ethernet-capable NQ HMI terminals are available with 3.5” and 5.7” screens. Both models use LED backlit TFT display technology to ensure high brightness, excellent contrast and vivid colours. In addition to their touch screens, these units incorporate freely programmable function keys to provide fast and convenient access to commonly used functions.
To accompany the new terminals, Omron has introduced Version 2.0 of its NQ-Designer software package, which provides comprehensive yet intuitive facilities for screen design and application creation. A new key feature of the software is a convenient conversion function that makes it possible for NQ applications to be used on any model in the range, irrespective of the model for which they were originally developed.
The new models also feature enhanced support for using USB memory sticks as a means of uploading application software. This provides a particularly convenient method of supplying end users with application updates for on-site installation.
Omron’s new Ethernet-capable NQ HMI terminals complement the existing models in the range, which offer connectivity via USB and standard serial ports. All NQ models share common features such as support for multiple languages, user-friendly alarm handling facilities and versatile data logging capabilities, making them an ideal and cost effective choice for applications of all types.
