Güntner receives ATMO approval for fifth year in a row

Listen to this article

Güntner Group, a global leader in heat exchange technology, has received ATMO Approved recertification for Güntner, marking the fifth consecutive year the company has achieved the prestigious industry recognition.

The latest recertification underlines Güntner’s ongoing commitment to sustainable innovation, natural refrigerant technology and the development of environmentally responsible cooling and heating solutions.

As pressure continues to grow on industry to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve energy efficiency, natural refrigerants are playing an increasingly important role in the future of refrigeration, heat pump and cooling systems. Güntner has remained at the forefront of this transition, investing in advanced heat exchange technologies that support lower environmental impact while delivering high levels of performance and reliability.

ATMO Approved, introduced in 2022, is recognised as the global gold standard for measuring and recognising leading manufacturers and contractors of natural refrigerant solutions.

These technologies are used to power heat pump systems, industrial chillers and refrigeration systems across a wide range of sectors including food and beverage, cold storage, pharmaceuticals, logistics and industrial manufacturing.

The internationally recognised benchmark was created to identify organisations that demonstrate genuine commitment to natural refrigerants and sustainable cooling technologies.

The certification process assesses not only technical capability but also measurable environmental impact and long-term business commitment to the adoption of natural refrigerant solutions.

To achieve ATMO Approved status, businesses must satisfy a series of rigorous requirements and demonstrate meaningful results. The criteria include providing evidence of reduced CO2 and trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) emissions, highlighting investment in employee training and education, and supplying customer testimonials that verify system reliability, efficiency and performance. Applicants must also demonstrate that natural refrigerants form a core element of their business strategy and product offering.

In practical terms, demonstrating impact means proving how natural refrigerant technologies contribute to lowering CO2-equivalent emissions while avoiding TFA emissions that are commonly associated with many synthetic refrigerant alternatives.

This distinction is becoming increasingly important as regulators and end users seek sustainable cooling technologies that align with long-term environmental objectives and evolving legislative requirements.

Natural refrigerants such as ammonia, carbon dioxide and hydrocarbons are widely recognised as key enablers of the industry's decarbonisation efforts. Their use can help organisations improve energy efficiency, reduce direct refrigerant emissions and support compliance with tightening environmental regulations. As a result, demand for natural refrigerant-based systems continues to grow across global markets.

Since the launch of the programme in 2022, only 20 companies from more than 90 applicants have successfully achieved approval and re-approval status. Güntner stands out as one of the few organisations to have secured successful re-approval every year since the benchmark was introduced, demonstrating consistent leadership in sustainable refrigeration and heat exchange innovation.

The achievement further reinforces Güntner’s position as a trusted technology partner for businesses seeking energy-efficient cooling systems, heat exchangers and natural refrigerant solutions that contribute to environmental sustainability goals.

Commenting on the ATMO approval, Michael Freiherr, Head of Technologies and Innovation at Güntner Group, said:

Receiving the ATMO Approved Label again for 2026 reinforces the direction we have taken at Güntner. Advancing natural refrigerant technologies and high-efficiency heat exchange systems is essential to reducing the climate impact of cooling. Our six sustainability pledges guide this work, from transitioning our product range to eco-friendly substances to reducing the environmental footprint of our manufacturing operations. This recognition highlights the role our technologies play in enabling more sustainable cooling worldwide.”

The latest ATMO Approved recertification reflects Güntner’s continued focus on innovation, sustainability and the advancement of natural refrigerant technologies. As industries around the world accelerate efforts to improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions, the company remains committed to developing high-performance heat exchange solutions that support a more sustainable future for cooling, refrigeration and heat pump applications.
