Industry-first emissions monitoring solution from Siemens awarded MCERTS

Listen to this article

The innovative CEM System Manager (CSM) from Siemens Industry Automation, a division of Siemens Industry sector, has been awarded MCERTS accreditation. The first emissions monitoring solution of its kind, CSM tackles the legislative and cost pressures that waste to energy and biomass plants face. It will be on show at Answers for Industry on 4-5 July at Manchester’s Central Convention Complex.

CSM from Siemens combines three analysis systems in one for the ultimate efficiency. Whereas traditionally industry would have to use a plant-wide control system, a Continuous Emissions Monitoring system and a reporting function, all technologies can now be integrated within a single platform.

Integrating emissions monitoring aids compliance with the new Industry Emissions Directive (IED). This holistic approach is achieved using PCS-7 from Siemens Industry Automation as a proven standard integration platform.

As part of its MCERTS approved complete emissions monitoring solution, Siemens Industry Automation secured a contract with Gasmet Technologies Oy to incorporate its FTIR (Fourier Transform Infra Red) gas analyser as part of its CEM system package.

Bob Lane, process analytics business manager for Sensors & Communications at Siemens Industry Automation, said: “The new CSM concept for integrated emissions reporting from Siemens is the first of its kind within the industry and we’re delighted to announce that the solution is fully MCERTS compliant. Ensuring compliance with legislation and increasing a plant’s operational efficiency are top of the agenda for operators and adopting a more joined-up approach to emissions monitoring helps achieve both these aims.”

The issue of emissions monitoring for UK industry will be debated at Answers for Industry, a major conference and exhibition hosted by Siemens. The event takes place on 4 and 5 July 2012 at Central Hall 2, Manchester Central Convention Complex and is designed to showcase how the UK manufacturing sector can tackle questions around skill shortages, productivity and competitiveness. Entry is free.
