More accurate and reliable level measurement than ever before
The world market leader in level instrumentation, Endress+Hauser, is delighted to introduce its new Micropilot family of instruments. This new generation of time-of-flight instruments offers more intelligent and reliable signal analysis than ever before, guaranteeing safe and precise level measurements at all times. In addition, the instruments’ new data management system makes it quick and easy to share information between devices and replace electronics.
Since the successful launch of Micropilot more than 20 years ago, Endress+Hauser has installed more than 300,000 radar instruments and more than 1 million instruments using the time-of-flight method. The new Micropilot FMR5x family has been designed for use in the chemical, oil & gas, life science, primaries and food industries, from the standard product for basic applications through to versions for high-pressure or high-temperature tasks.
Precise
In traditional time-of-flight measurements, obstacles in the radar beam, for example installed instruments or heating coils, can interfere with the signal and give false readings. Endress+Hauser has overcome this problem with a system called Multi-Echo Tracking. This improved way of analysing signals means that obstacles are marked and tracked along with the level, guaranteeing accurate measurements to within an incredible 2mm.
Efficient
Another advantage of the new radar instrument is the HistoROM data management concept which allows fast and easy commissioning, maintenance and diagnostics. As well as continuously backing-up all relevant data, it allows customers to replace main electronics by hand, quickly and simply. The instrument also offers intuitive and user-friendly menu guidance, reducing the cost of training, maintenance and operation.
Safe
Safety is always a top priority at Endress+Hauser. As a result, the hardware and software of the new Micropilot were developed according to IEC 61508 and can be used in homogeneous redundancy up to SIL3. In practice this means that Micropilot always checks it’s working properly and safely by continuous self-monitoring. Two instruments are used at the same measuring point and if one of the two detects an unsafe condition, the instrument changes to the Alarm Condition. This reduces the probability that an unsafe process condition goes unnoticed. As an extra safety net, the recurring check or proof test can be easily started either by attaching an engineering tool or directly from the control room, ensuring the instrument maintains its reliability.
