New housing for Ex-escape signs simplifies installation and maintenance

Cooper Crouse-Hinds, a leader in electrical products that provide safety, productivity, innovation and labour savings in hazardous, industrial and commercial environments, has redesigned the housing on its popular EXIT series of explosion-protected Ex-escape sign luminaires. The new housing provides a number of benefits for customers including simplified installation and maintenance.

The new flatter designed housing now features single-sided through-wiring with a generously dimensioned terminal compartment, simplifying installation and maintenance. The mounting fixtures are now integrated in the profile of the luminaire. A hinged cover also enables the escape sign luminaire to be mounted universally in any direction.

As Klaus Weyer, Product Manager LED Lighting at COOPER Crouse-Hinds GmbH comments: “The new optimised design is made from high grade polycarbonate and is robust with a high degree of ingress protection [IP66]. The luminaire also has an LED printed circuit board mounted in the cover. The electronic components mounted in the housing can be exchanged easily and connected using plug-in connectors. All of this means the customer benefits from a very reliable, robust escape sign luminaire, which is faster to install and easier to maintain.“

Whilst the housing has changed, all available pictograms and inscriptions on the EXIT series still have the same shape and size, so that the optical impression of the previous EXIT series remains. Spares for the previous series will still be available.

The EXIT series of explosion-protected escape sign luminaires fulfils the requirements of the European ATEX Directive 94/9/EC and the latest IECEx standards. The lamps are used for marking escape routes and exits in potentially explosive atmospheres and are suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. For the EXIT series, only white, high efficiency LEDs are used as illuminants, which guarantees maintenance-free operation as the illuminants do not need to be replaced throughout the complete service life of the luminaire.

The electronics are also designed for a maintenance-free service life. The LED circuits are intrinsically-safe and energy efficient. A wide input voltage range allows the luminaire to be installed internationally.
