In support of the International Women in Engineering Day on 23 June (#INWED19), powder handling and dry solids processing market leaders, Spiroflow, will be using the occasion to mark the 20th work anniversary of one of its key regional sales staff, Jeannette Carter, who reaches the milestone on the 21 June.
Jeannette began her career with Spiroflow back in 1991, left for a brief foray into retail and rejoined in 1999. Since then she has held a number of roles within the company, before taking up her current position as regional sales manager for the north-west. Holding a NEBOSH qualification and managing a number of major accounts, she is widely regarded within the firm as being “…the best sales person in Spiroflow’s history”.
Commenting on her career to-date, Jeannette said: “Spiroflow is a great place to work. In sales, you get approached regularly by recruitment companies, but going elsewhere is really not an option. Sadly for Spiroflow, I think they are probably stuck with me!
“The company has offered me opportunities that I never thought would come my way. In this traditionally male-dominated industry of ours, being a woman in the engineering sector is challenging and to be honest I’ve received a few surprised looks along the way. But being able to change people’s perceptions is a great feeling. On the back of initial scepticism in certain quarters, some great relationships have been built, many of which have since become key customers.
“It is great to see more women in engineering roles as I go out and about. It shows that the imbalance is steadily improving with more women being recruited into engineering roles. Hopefully the number will continue to grow.”
A keen advocate of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), Spiroflow already employs a number of women in key engineering appointments, including project engineer Aimee Donaldson, who was awarded the SHAPA Newcomer Award in 2018.
Spiroflow designs powder handling systems, including specialised conveyors and bulk bag handling equipment for the food, chemical, minerals and other process industries. The company’s technical and engineering expertise has led to it developing an international reputation for an unrivalled range of products with state-of-the-art control systems and more recently the development of the SAM remote monitoring system.
We manufacture a full range of equipment for handling dry bulk solids and ingredients in powder, granule, pellet and flake form, across the whole spectrum of process industries.
