Industry-leading Knowledge Management Information System Plays Vital Role

Listen to this article

Committed to ensuring its processes and procedures remain robust and future-proofed, FMA Process Engineering has invested a six-figure sum in an industry-leading knowledge management information system.

Provided by knowledge management experts, Union Square, the system will equip the Lichfield-based project management, process consultancy and control system integration specialist with unrivalled capabilities in the way it shares, stores and accesses vital project-related data.

Further enhancing processes and procedures
“At FMA we take great pride in operating to the very highest standards,” comments Development Director, Terry Clough. “Our investment in Union Square’s knowledge management software will further enhance our processes and procedures. Furthermore, it will put us in a position to provide our customers with exceptional access to their project data – all supported by total transparency in everything we do.”

Phased transition period
FMA’s transition to Union Square’s knowledge management system is being phased over three stages. Stage one, which embraces the company’s document management, email management and design control, is well under way and is already providing significant improvements. These include advanced email management for projects, streamlined project management, advanced version control of project designs and documents, as well as enterprise-wide access to project data. Health & Safety management tools and HR modules are also included.

“One particularly notable advantage is the way in which emails are now automatically logged by project, streamlining the flow of information to all those involved in a particular task,” adds Terry Clough.

Enhanced financial reporting and greater workforce control
Stage two will further enhance FMA’s financial analysis, project accounting and reporting capabilities, while stage three, which incorporates timesheet management, resource planning and purchase requisitioning, will equip the business with greater workforce control and real-time information regarding project status, particularly where contractors are involved.

Committed to highest standards
As a further example of FMA’s commitment to achieving and maintaining the highest standards across every aspect of its business, the company has once again been awarded accreditation by Safecontractor for its excellence in Health & Safety. FMA has also been accepted onto the Government GrowthAccelerator scheme – a programme which is the preserve of some of the UK’s top SMEs. It has also joined the ‘great200leaders’ mentoring and intensive coaching initiative.

Further extending skills base
In preparation for continued growth, FMA has also begun to further extend its skills and knowledge base, strengthening its resources in the areas of Process Engineering, Project Engineering and Systems Automation.  Finally, FMA has underlined its commitment to graduate recruitment, providing newly qualified engineers with the opportunity to not only join a knowledge-led business, but also develop the skills that will assist the organisation in the future.
