ION SENSE ® to Showcase Full Sensor Product Line at AQE Show
Key points
ION SENSE®, a part of ION Science Limited and the leading brand in advanced gas detection technology, is pleased to confirm its presence at the Air Quality & Emissions (AQE) Exhibition at the NEC Birmingham, 17–18 September 2025. The company will be located on Stand S80, where ION SENSE® will have on display its full portfolio of advanced gas sensing and integration solutions for use in a wide range of applications.
Some of its salient innovations highlighted is the recently launched ION SENSE® PID, the next-generation photoionisation detector (PID) for volatile organic compound (VOC) measurement. Initially unveiled this year at Sensor + Test 2025 in Nuremberg, the new-generation PID delivers excellent performance with 50% better response time, reliable EMI protection, intelligent diagnostics (patent pending), and extended 15,000-hour lamp and filter lifetime. The sensor is engineered to work reliably in aggressive and high-humidity applications, giving users confidence, accuracy and low cost of operation.
Performance and Flexibility Across Application
Also included is the well-known MiniPID 2 series, ION SENSE®'s most tried-and-true and most general-purpose series of PID sensors for measuring VOC. Well-known for being highly sensitive, reliable and durable, MiniPID 2 sensors are very much in demand in many different industries including environmental monitoring, occupational health and safety, indoor air quality, and personal exposure assessment. The sensors have quick response and clean down times, making possible real-time measurements of VOC levels even under fluctuating conditions.
MiniPID 2 sensors are available in varying ranges, sensitivities and energies based on application needs – MiniPID 2, MiniPID 2 HS (high sensitivity, sub-PPB), MiniPID 2 PPB (parts per billion detection), and MiniPID 2 WR (wide range). All include ultra-stable, high-intensity UV lamps to deliver long life of operation and highest sensitivity, even to lower-volatility organic compounds that are typically more difficult to detect. The sensors are optimised for diffusive as well as pumped sampling systems for versatile deployment in portable, wearable or stationary monitoring systems.
Their compact form factor, long-term reliability, and low maintenance requirements make the MiniPID 2 series the ideal solution for integrators and OEMs that desire low overhead with high dependability. Low power consumption also makes these sensors ideally suited to battery-operated applications, enabling continuous operation in mobile or remote applications.
Coming Soon: NextPM Particulate Matter Sensor
NextPM, one of the new generation of particulate matter (PM) sensors available today, will be shown in the stand as well. NextPM offers real-time direct PM₁, PM₂.₅, and PM₁₀ monitoring in µg/m³ or particles per litre. Its proprietary technologies of precision airflow control, built-in humidity management, and dual-angle optical sensing enable very precise data capture even in difficult or changing environmental conditions. It is optimally positioned to be utilised in indoor and outdoor air quality monitoring, environmental studies, and smart city applications.
Rapid Evaluation and Integration Tools
Part of its system integration support, ION SENSE® will introduce new ION CONNECT and ION TRANSMIT boards that are specifically developed in response to customer demands for cost-effective integration solutions. The boards facilitate easy deployment of sensors with ease of quick evaluation and live PID data straight out of the box without having to use custom circuitry.
The ION CONNECT board provides simple data understanding by transceiving analogue inputs in digital outputs, while the ION TRANSMIT board enables remote communication for extended distance monitoring systems. The boards provide industry-standard UART and I²C, MODBUS RTU and 4–20 mA protocols and permit user-programmable calibration features and replaceable response factors.
The users are able to scale outputs to convenient ppm/current levels depending on application, and duty cycle control helps in maximising sensor life. Inbuilt error diagnostics can be configured to detect specific fault conditions, and the compact design allows for use in small devices like wearable and portable systems. The boards also exist for diffused and pumped sampling systems through a custom gas hood to enable flexible integration.
Collectively, these innovations bring industrial-grade reliability, reduced integration and development cost, faster time to market, and improved return on investment for OEMs, integrators, and developers. Uses span indoor and outdoor air quality monitoring, lithium battery life cycle testing, HVAC systems, and laboratory testing.
