Interpon Colour of the Year 2026 Attracts Blues for Balance, Reconnection
Three freshly curated palettes offer a vision in blue
Key points
AkzoNobel has unveiled its Interpon 2026 Colour of the Year, unveiling not one but three hero colourways of Interpon powder coatings. Each has been created to move beyond mere appearance and create mood and atmosphere—challenging people to stop, reflect and reconnect with a natural rhythm of feeling in the spaces they live and work.
The indigo blue trilogy inspires three distinct palettes, Serenity, Fluidity and Liberty, capable of transforming architecture, interior spaces, furniture, lighting and into a wide variety of design applications. Each palette offers its own feeling of serenity and connection as well as developing flexible solutions for commercial, residential and public spaces.
Serenity: Therapeutic calm for healthcare and workplaces
Emerging from Noir 2000 Sable Dark Blue, Serenity combines wintry, earthy tones to create environments that encourage contemplation and revitalization. The color scheme has been developed with offices and healthcare settings in mind—environments where individuals need a respite from relentless visual input and tension. Balancing an anchoring dark blue with gentle natural tones, Serenity encourages tranquility, clarity and balance.
Fluidity: Warm colors for integrated living
The Fluidity palette is led by Brisbane Sable, a pale blue that is the perfect partner to earthy terracotta and brick shades. The colours combined create interconnected areas that convey feelings of warmth and belonging. Fluidity is particularly well-suited to home and hospitality environments, where feelings of comfort and cohesion are essential to creating welcoming environments. By merging contemporary colour possibilities with natural colours, Fluidity builds interiors that are modern yet rooted in heritage.
Liberty: Youth power of learning and teamwork
Baku Fine Texture guides Liberty, a color palette that was developed to advance energy, optimism and creative freedom. The bright blue is complemented by bold accent hues that bring education and work environments alive. Liberty is meant to encourage imagination, foster collaboration and bring liberation into everyday environments. With its dynamic appearance, the palette is ideal for areas where inspiration and innovative thinking are cultivated.
Research-driven design based on international expertise
The Colour of the Year 2026 emerges from extensive dialogue between colour scientists, architects and designers worldwide. Specialists from AkzoNobel's Global Aesthetics Centre have used over 30 years' worth of colour research and trend forecasting to ensure that the new colours are not just fashionable, but also attuned to cultural changes and human needs.
Bob Dirks, Global Segment Manager Architectural AkzoNobel Powder Coatings, explains:
“Color is so much more than an aesthetic, it is an essential tool to cultivate the energy of a space. Whether people need to be invigorated and energized, or relaxed and reflective, color palettes are influential in how we feel in any environment. “With 12 colors to choose from, mixing darker shades with lighter neutrals, these palettes offer architects and designers the opportunity to curate distinct moods in the spaces that they design that will offer a positive energy for years to come.”
Sustainability and durability at the core
Serenity, Fluidity and Liberty palettes are members of the Interpon D2525 super durable powder coating family, renowned for their long lifespan. When applied by an Interpon D Approved Applicator, they come with a guarantee up to 25 years, making them a highly reliable choice for architectural applications.
Also significant, the coatings contain an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD). A third-party certification that assesses raw materials, manufacturing and transportation used in producing Interpon D, giving architects and designers explicit green building code-compliance credentials.
