Interpon D3020 Now Produced in India to Support Local Pace Climate and Architectural Ambition

AkzoNobel has begun local production of its flagship hyperdurable powder coating Interpon D3020 in India, marking a significant step in strengthening its support for the country’s rapidly advancing architecture and design sectors.

Local manufacture enables shorter delivery times, improved colour matching capability and more responsive technical support for architects, fabricators and applicators working across India’s diverse climate zones.

Interpon D3020 has long been recognised as the coating of choice for bold contemporary architectural designs that must perform in the most demanding environments. From intense heat and humidity to corrosive coastal conditions, the system is engineered to safeguard façades, structural elements and exterior aluminium from early degradation.

By shifting production into India, AkzoNobel is now providing faster access to the performance and design versatility that the Interpon brand is known for while also contributing to the nation’s growing focus on sustainable construction practices.

The coating is based on advanced fluoropolymer technology that provides exceptional resistance to corrosion UV radiation and weathering. It meets and exceeds the stringent global benchmarks of Qualicoat Class 3 AAMA 2605 and GSB Premium, and it consistently outperforms during the demanding 10 year Florida exposure test.

When applied by an Interpon D Approved Applicator, the system is supported by a warranty of up to 30 years, giving architects and developers confidence that their projects will stand the test of time.

Interpon D3020 also represents a high performance alternative to PVDF liquid coatings. While offering comparable hyperdurability, the powder coating provides substantial sustainability and application advantages that are becoming increasingly important to specifiers across India and worldwide.

As a powder coating Interpon D3020 contains no Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) and produces significantly less waste during application. Its exceptional resistance to scratching and marring means reduced rework on site, which translates into lower installation costs and less environmental impact. One coat application further cuts energy consumption and supports more efficient project schedules.

The system is backed by an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) that provides complete transparency regarding raw material sourcing production energy packaging and transport, helping building designers meet stringent sustainability assessment and certification schemes.

Simon Timmins, Regional Commercial Director for AkzoNobel Powder Coatings in South Asia, says he is delighted the business is now delivering locally produced D3020 to the Indian market with shorter delivery times:

Producing Interpon D3020 in India means we can move faster, match colors more efficiently, and better support our customers in creating landmark structures that stand the test of time. The move has given us the agility to react quickly to India’s growing demand for locally-sourced state-of-the-art powder coatings.”

He adds:

This collection is known to not only help imagine the future with beautiful colors and finishes, but also to protect it with an unmatched performance to withstand even the most challenging environments while supporting a more sustainable future.”

The newly available Indian colour range includes 22 distinctive finishes with many more options that can be matched locally. Stylish matte tones, premium metallic effects, textured surfaces and bespoke architectural shades give designers full creative freedom while still ensuring long term protection.

This expanded flexibility means architects can specify Interpon D3020 for iconic façades, urban regeneration projects, high rise developments and infrastructure schemes with confidence that every finish will perform consistently across India’s varying climates.

With the combination of local production, advanced durability, sustainability credentials and extensive colour choice, Interpon D3020 is set to play an increasingly important role in the future of India’s architectural landscape.
