Process Steam Training Seminar from TLV Euro Engineering Achieves Level 3 BTEC Advanced Award

A steam training seminar from TLV Euro Engineering covering the efficient use of process steam has achieved a Level 3 BTEC Advanced Award, offering a nationally recognised qualification to those following the syllabus.

Commenting for TLV, general manager Michael Povey says: “The objective of the training seminar is to develop the knowledge of people employed in the steam industry whose job it is to increase steam efficiency, reduce maintenance costs and/or improve the design and performance of steam systems.” The BTEC-approved syllabus explains the fundamentals of steam and condensate; system design, pipe sizing, valve sizing and best practice; steam trap testing, management and maintenance; improving efficiency and reducing losses; pressure reduction, temperature control and metering; and trapping and condensate return. This is followed by a multiple-choice examination, written paper and observation-based test to gain certification.

One of the first trainees on the new course, Clarke Energy’s Danny Taylor, explains that even before it became BTEC-approved, the course was highly recommended within the industry. “I had received excellent feedback from colleagues that had attended the original course and therefore asked my employer to book my place. TLV’s tutors, coursework and practical and written tests are well prepared, but the real highlight was to achieve the BTEC qualification.”

He goes onto say the course really expanded his knowledge of steam- and condensate-related services and equipment, including sizing steam mains, pressure reducing valves and the appropriate use of steam traps in different applications.

The three-day seminars are held at TLV’s purpose-designed, state-of-the-art training facility at its European headquarters in Germany, where the flow dynamics of steam and condensate systems can be viewed and participants receive hands-on training from TLV instructors with many years experience, expertise and knowledge of steam systems. Participants also have the opportunity to discuss specific applications, raise issues and seek advice from TLV staff.

Summing up, Danny Taylor says that TLV left no stone unturned and, like his colleagues before him, can highly recommend the course to anyone looking to increase their knowledge of steam and condensate systems.

The cost of the three-day seminar includes BTEC administration fees, flights, transfers to/from Frankfurt airport, accommodation and all meals and refreshments.
