Ovivo is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its acclaimed packaged wastewater treatment plant – Copa® SAF (Submerged Aerated Filter), the high performance, low-energy biological filter that achieves extremely high final effluent quality.

Since the first mobile GRP Copa SAF was supplied to Severn Trent Water’s Hinckley STW in 1992, over 350 units have been installed across the country, covering every major UK water company.

Suitably flexible for installation as a permanent or temporary solution, or as part of a planned works maintenance program, the simple to operate packaged wastewater treatment system Copa SAF switched from GRP to steel in 1996 before a new below-ground and concrete design were also introduced in 2005.

Capable of achieving 15mg:25mg:4mg BOD:SS:NH4 effluent quality the stainless steel Copa SAF offers a 25 year design life, considerably reducing whole life costs, whilst its small footprint can significantly increase the capacity of a sewage works without the need for expensive civil works.

In keeping with Ovivo’s ongoing commitment to enhancing water treatment solutions, the latest developments in the continuing success of the low maintenance Copa SAF are a new night time energy saving switch, denitrificaiton and a no desludge above ground version.
