Lockout / Tagout facility further protects safety of DECONTACTOR users
Combining lockout / tagout (LOTO) procedures with MARECHAL’s DECONTACTOR™ plugs and sockets in both industrial and EX environments enhances the safety of plant electrical maintenance staff and helps the duty holder meet the Electricity at Work Regulations (1989).
Maintenance staff and trained operatives can already disconnect on load electrical equipment by simply pressing the DECONTACTOR™ release button and creating visible isolation of the plant. With the DECONTACTOR™ padlock option, LOTO locks and tags can be used to ensure the disconnected plant remains locked-off and isolated.
Such a condition prevents danger and contributes to meeting the requirements of Regulation 13 (precautions for work on equipment made dead) of the EAW.
The DECONTACTOR™ socket design includes an internal on-load switching mechanism using silver-nickel tipped, spring-loaded contacts that offer low resistance and long-term reliability. Glass fibre-reinforced housings are robust whilst the contacts resist corrosion and don’t cold-weld. IP66/67 is standard whether the plug is inserted into the socket or not. The result is a longer and more reliable plant asset that reduces electrical isolation procedures to seconds but still with assured user safety.
By specifying the padlocking facility for the DECONTACTOR™ socket, LOTO equipment can be fitted.
