Rotary heat exchangers save energy with novel speed controller

Rotary heat exchangers can use less energy by operating at high efficiency with the help of the RHC 200 stepless speed controller from DeltaSense. The novel controller is a simple to operate plug and play device designed for permanent magnet motors used in low speed, high torque applications.
Its firmware can be customised to produce the optimal speed/heat demand for the specific application, further reducing power consumption and heat dissipation.

Designed for 32 pole permanent magnet motors up to 370 W, with shaft torques from 4 Nm to 10 Nm, the controller has on-board EMC filtering. The standard rotation speed range of 214-375 rpm can be modified if required, making it possible to replace traditional motor and gear arrangements with a simple direct drive.
Speed control is by a 0-10 V input or digitally by Modbus. There is also a rotor movement sensor input to check the rotor is turning and a relay output for indicating any failures.
A sophisticated set of fault control systems ensures the motor operates even in extreme conditions. Short circuit, overvoltage and temperature protection are all built in.
With a rugged aluminium case, the RHC 200 is IP54 rated and passively cooled for maximum reliability.
